Often persons living with Alzheimer’s disease become isolated. Going out to see friends or socializing becomes daunting. But since personal interaction is a healthy way to keep the disease at bay, the Alzheimer’s Association provides Memory Cafés to offer a solution.
Persons with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia, their caregivers and family members are invited to monthly Memory Cafés held the fourth Thursday of the month in the Mid-States meeting room. The programs are free; no registration required.
The relaxed gatherings are a time to share stories, laugh and share concerns without feeling embarrassed or misunderstood with others experiencing similar life changes. Each month features a new theme.
March 23: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Remember Fred Astaire singing, “You like potato, I like potahto. You like tomato, I like tomahto?” Play word games, brainstorm by mixing and matching and making up new words.
Memory Cafés are sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association; Legacies: Family and Organizational Historians; and the Fond du Lac Public Library. For more information about Memory Cafés or Alzheimer's disease, contact the Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline at (800) 272-3900.
